On the morning of April 9, 2011, more than 20 alumni including Mr. He Zhaowu and Mr. Zhang Wenpu who studied in the History Department of Tsinghua University from 1939 to 1951 came back to their alma mater to celebrate her 100th anniversary.

Professor Liu Beicheng, Chair of the Department, introduced the reconstruction progress of the history discipline at Tsinghua since the 1952 restructuring of higher education. Professor Zhou Maolin, Associate Dean of SHSS, talked about the expectations and attention the humanities and social sciences have received from all sectors of society and national leaders.

The alumni all expressed their expectation that the Department inherit and carry forward the academic tradition of Tsinghua to integrate Chinese and Western learning, and study the past and the current, and incorporate not only social sciences but also natural sciences into the study of history, in order to create new glory for the discipline.
