CHEN Guoping (Xidu)

Bio

CHEN Guoping (Xidu), a poet and poetry critic, is professor in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Tsinghua University. His primary research focus on modern Chinese poetics. Born in Pujiang County, Zhejiang Province in 1967, he studied at Peking University's Department of Chinese Language and Literature from 1985 to 1989, where he began writing poetry. After graduation, he worked as an editor for many years. He earned his Ph.D. in Literature from Tsinghua University in 2015 and joined Tsinghua's School of Humanities in 2018. His poetry collections include Plato in the Snow, The Grass House, Heart-Linked Locks, Bird Language Forest, Angel's Arrow, and The Watchmaker's Memory. His critical works include Watching and Listening, The Future of the Soul, Notes on Reading Poetry, and the monograph Heroic Scenery: On Luo Yihe and a Comparative Study of Luo Yihe and Haizi. Some of his works have been translated into French and published as Le Chant du vent et des roseaux (Éditions Fédérop, 2008). He has received awards such as the Liu Li'an Poetry Prize, the October Literary Award, the Dongdangzi Poetry Prize, the Yangtze River Poetics Award, the Changyao Poetry Prize, the Thatched Cottage Poetry Prize, and the October Poetry Prize.

Other edited works include The Complete Works of Ge Mai, Selected Poems of Peking University (co-edited with Zang Di), Archives of Avant-Garde Poetry, Visiting Chinese Poetry, Luo Yihe's Poems, Selected Poems of Hai Zi, Master Reading Series, Modern Chinese, College Chinese, and others.
