Educational background
Gu Tao, Ph.D. in Literature (Nanjing University, 2007). He is currently a Professor and doctoral supervisor at Department of History, School of Humanities, Tsinghua University. He serves as the Dean of Rixin College at Tsinghua University and a member of the 13th Degree Evaluation Committee of Tsinghua University. He has been honored as a Beijing Outstanding Young Teacher.
Work experience
His recent research focuses on Chinese institutional history, history of ancient Chinese rites, and the frontiers and cultural convergence in ancient China. He is the author of Ritual Governance Through the Ages: Jurisprudence in Creation and Continuity (2025), Inklings of Ritual Studies: From Philology to Classics and History (2022), Tilling and Reading Through Classics and History (2021), The Inheritance and Innovation Spectrum of Ritual Systems from Han to Tang (2018), The History of Chinese Ancient Phonology (co-authored, 2016), and Chinese Archery Rites (2013), among others. He has published over a hundred academic papers, essays, and book reviews. He teaches several courses including "Confucius and His Critics", "State Governance in Ancient China," "Research on Records of the Grand Historian(史记)," and "Studies on Tong Dian(通典)and Chinese Institutional History".
