Zhang Guogang, Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor at Department of History，Tsinghua University.

He studied at the Nankai University, gaining the Ph.D in 1988. He served as the Humboldtian in Germany, researching and teaching in Europe nearly a decade. In 2004, He joined Tsinghua University as the head of History Department. He was awarded the Changjiang Chair Professorship by the Ministry of Education, in 2006. His research focus is on history of ancient China and history of Chinese and Western cultural relations and related fields.

He has published many acclaimed books, some of which have been translated into English, Korean, Arabic, widely disseminated overseas. He achieved the Excellent Award in Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education for 4 times. The recent publications include Foreign land in imagining: “Journey to the West "on the Silk Road想像的異邦：絲路上的「西遊記」(Chung Hwa Book Co. H.K.，2025. Civilization: Three Thousand Years of Chinese Western Exchange文明：中西交流三千年（Dayou Press, 2024）, Zizhitongjian and The Rise and Fall of Empires 资治通鉴与家国兴衰（Zhonghua Book Company,2023/2016）etc.
