Mr. Junren, WAN, born 1958 in Yueyang city, Hunan Province, P. R. China, distinguished professor at Tsinghua University and National the First Class professor of Philosophy. BA. of Philosophy (1983) at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, MA. of Philosophy (majored in Ethics, 1986) at Peking University. And appointed as an assistant professor (1986), senior lecturer (1987), associate professor (1990) and full professor (1992) of ethics in Philosophy Department at Peking University, and got State Council special allowance in 1992, appointed with “Excellent Young Teacher”by Beijing city(1991). And then appointed with “Talents Program”(1999), chairperson of Philosophy Department (2000-10), dean of School of Humanities (2012-21) at Tsinghua. During the term, appointed with “Excellent Teacher”(2004) and “Changjiang Scholarship”(2007) by National Education Department, and then appointed with the title as Distinguished professor of Humanities & Social Sciences (2018) at Tsinghua and National First Class Professor of Humanities (2022) by State Council of P. R. China.

Also once been visiting fellow in Harvard-Yenching Institute (1993-94), visiting professor (2000) and Fulbright visiting professor (2005-06) in Philosophy department at Harvard University, visiting professor in CRRASH at Cambridge University, UK. and in Amsterdam University, Holland and in Northern-eastern University, Japan.

Majoring in ethics (especially western ethics), political philosophy and comparative studies of Chinese-Western moral philosophy, I have been opening more than 10 discourses both for undergraduate and graduate students, such as A History of Western Ethics: from Geek to the Contemporary Europe and America, Political Philosophy, Reading of Western Classical Ethics, Economical Ethics, Comparative Studies of Chinese-Western Ethics and etc., and published more than 20 books including A History of Contemporary Western Ethics (2 vols. 1990-92) by Peking University Press,Searching for a Universal Ethics by Commercial Books (Beijing, 2000), and nearly 300 articles both in Chinese journals and in English ones domestically and internationally, translated more than 20 books including Language of Morals (Richard M. Hare), Political Liberalism (John Rawls) and so on. Some of the publications have been awarded with the First Prize of Humanities & Social Sciences by Peking University, Second Prize of Humanities & Social Sciences of the First Session by National Education Department and so on.

I am also director of the Board of Directors of Nishan World Confucian Research Center, Council Member of the International Confucian Federation, Vice Chairman of Chinese Confucian Research Association, and Former President of Cthics Association (2012-22), and so on.
